Wood Burning and Gas Stoves

A stove can be a real focal point in any room, giving real character. It can also be a great way to heat your home.

Wood Burners

Wood burning stoves can burn logs, waste wood compressed into pellets, or almost any wood, as long as it is not treated or painted (but try to use locally produced wood and certainly not hard woods from non-sustainable sources).

Unlike fossil fuels - coal, oil and gas - wood is a renewable resource. In Britain the forestry industry currently plants more trees than are chops down (unlike tropical hardwood forests that can take hundreds of years to mature). The wood used for wood burning stoves is often waste that would otherwise need to be disposed of elsewhere.

Replacing fossil fuels with wood will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% and may be eligible  for a grant from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme.

Gas stoves offer an attractive addition to a room with the convenience of gas.
